Whoa, they look super different!Even though most of us don't think much about figure skating until the Winter Olympic Games roll around, somehow famous skaters linger in our minds long after the medals have been given out. Dorothy Hamill (and her sassy short 'do) captivated the world back in the 1970s, as did Peggy Fleming in the late 1960s. In 1993, three skaters were in the top 10 most popular athletes in America (Hamill, Fleming and Scott Hamilton), and in 1994 the Winter Olympics beat even the Super Bowl to become the most-watched TV program to that date. From the late '90s to the 2000s, Michelle Kwan dominated the sport.
Most of the time, figure skaters become heralded figures for their performances (or falling flat on their backs, yikes). But then there are SCANDALS. We all know the infamous name Tonya Harding, the skater who was banned for being involved with her then-husband's strike on her competitor, Nancy Kerrigan, with a bat to the thigh. (Kerrigan's longtime friend and competitor, Kristi Yamaguchi, set Twitter off in 2017 when she tweeted "Good luck...break a leg!" to Nancy for her Dancing with the Stars performance.)
You remember their names, but do you remember their faces? See what these figure skaters looked like then... and what they look like now! Get Started
